“INK Fine Lines is book 1 in a paranormal suspense series.” That is the first line of the blurb of this book. SUSPENSE is right! It had me sitting on the edge of my seat and yelling at my cat to “leave me alone!” Poor kitty! I felt bad afterward. But, I digress… I don’t read many paranormal books, but, on occasion I delve into that world; if the book strikes me, and this one did. I had been looking at it, on and off, for awhile, so when it was given to me, I knew it was a sign; I had to read it. So, now I’m hooked and will be reading the series. Now, onto the review.Shay, has been through a lot in the last year and half: her fiancé left her (again, for the THIRD time), her twin sister and mother have both died, and a person who worked in the building she also worked in died in a very horrific way. On, a good note, her comic book series has taken off with a bang and she is about to start a promotional tour. She’s just turned twenty-two and is trying to get her life in order when she is accused of the double murder of her neighbors.
Aiden, is the ex-fiancé and best friend of Shay who grew up with Shay from childhood along with Eli. They were the three best friends that were always together growing up. Aiden, after being gone for over a year, shows up on Shay’s birthday to surprise her and be with her “no strings attached.” Yeah, right! She has wised up after the third time. She lets him sleep there, but that’s it; they are still friends after all.
Eli has always loved Shay, even in childhood. Every time Aiden ran away, Eli was there to pick up the pieces. Shay loves them both. Do you see that this book is more than just a paranormal suspense? Yeah, they might want to add romance onto that blurb too.
So, what we have is two hunky hot guys (no longer best buddies) in love with one sexy comic series writer. Where’s the paranormal? Well, that is all wrapped up in her dreams! Those dreams get put into her comics. I often wonder why gruesome comics are called comics when there is nothing funny about them. HER’S ARE NOT FUNNY! What she sees in her dreams are of the, Oh-My-Gosh-I-can’t-believe-I-am-seeing-this variety. They have you holding your stomach and running to the bathroom hoping you don’t lose your lunch. Okay, I didn’t do that, but sometimes Shay did.
Bella writes very descriptively. The reader can imagine all of the unusual, beautiful and sensual things she is depicting, depending on the scene. I was never bored. I never wanted to put the book down. I don’t want it to sound like it was all sick and twisted, it wasn’t. There were some very loving, caring scenes in the book. There were suspenseful scenes without the sick and twisted. So, really it was very well balanced to where the reader is not in one emotion too long or too deeply. It was very well rounded.
Oh, did I mention humor? Yeah, she’s got that too. With this book, the reader kind of needs it! Bella does a great job of keeping the reader from being bored. The reader will have varying emotions throughout the book. The only thing that caused me to “tweak” a little was some slight editing problems. I did have to go back and reread a line on occasion, but that is not enough to keep from buying this book. If you are a paranormal reader, you will like this one.
INK Sketches (Book 0-Part 1), a prequel, that is out now, should be read AFTER this book, INK Fine Lines (Book 1), not before. Trust me on this. Bella said that, not me, but I agree. I have already started Sketches and I agree, it needs to be read after Fine Lines to not misinterpret some things (I read some of the reviews on Sketches where the reviewer had read it first and they had some things wrong in the storyline because they hadn’t read Fine lines first.) After reading Sketches, I am on to INK Vanishing Point (Book 2), which is already out. I am itching to get to this since Fine Lines left me with a cliffhanger, but I am being good and reading in the order Bella suggested. Yeah, I’m good that way (most of the time.) Bella tells us to look for INK Abstraction (Book 3) this spring. Well, we are almost there. So let’s hope it will be here soon!

INK Fine Lines Volume 1 Bella Roccaforte 9781492133773 Books Reviews
This is a supernatural thriller and due to the language, intimate scenes and violence is suitable for adults. Unless of course you happen to be an extremely mature young adult.
Shay is a comic book artist and has had a rough time of it recently. Her ex-fiancee Aiden keeps popping back into her life and then disappearing again, and the person who keeps putting her back together is her on-again/off-again lover Eli. She could just ditch Aiden and love Eli, but his drinking habits are tearing them apart. On the night of her birthday Shay has a dream involving a character in her comic - the Sanguine Specter. He targets people Shay doesn't get on with and kills them in over the top ways while declaring his love for her. Shay uses these nightmare images to make her comics come alive. When her neighbours are killed the police come round to question Shay and discover the comic graphics - identical to the murder that has just happened. Shay now becomes the main suspect in the police investigation as connections start being made with her images and previous murders. Enter McNab, a paranormal investigator, who is determined to find the supernatural being targeting Shay. Will Aiden and Eli be able to work together long enough to help Shay stay out of the clutches of the being, let alone the police?
This is a really intriguing idea for a story and only half way through did I realise that I missed a previous book, as a lot of questions about characters arose. I liked the way that the story's chapters are told from different character's viewpoints so that you understand different perspectives. I felt the characters weren't quite developed enough, but with a number of follow up books to this I'm sure that a lot more will be explained and that the cliff-hanger will have the ending readers are hoping for. Some editing and spelling mistakes were off putting but on the whole, a good job.
I know who I'm voting for to get the girl, but I guess I'll have to get my hands on the next book to find out!
INK Fine Lines, the debut novel from author Bella Roccaforte is an incredible NA paranormal thriller!
The story follows Shay Baynes, a comic artist who has recently found success and is now garnering attention within the comic industry. Her dark, macabre stories are revealed to her in her dreams guided by her fictional comic character Gabriel. Little does she know that these dreams coincide with actual murders that have taken place in the recent past. This revelation comes to her when a couple is murdered in her neighborhood and she is questioned.
On the heels of two recent relationships gone awry, Shay is trying to be a strong and independent woman. When the two men, Eli, an attorney and Aiden, a wealthy independent son of an attorney come flooding back into her life in an attempt to provide her with their support, she gets frustrated. Eli has a drinking problem that he needs to gain control of and Aiden is flighty at best, never sticking around for too long. These two help in their own individual ways and continue to butt heads with each other throughout the story.
After being questioned by the police and heavy media publicity of the gruesome murders, suspicion of Shay's involvement grows.
This plot has many exciting twists and turns and leaves the reader of the edge of their seat, unable to put it down! With quite the cliffhanger ending, I can't wait for the next one, Ink Vanishing Point. A very original and highly refreshing read!
